The tree science and conservation society of South Africa
The Dendrological Society promotes the study, protection and propagation of trees and tree-dominated ecosystems as a contribution to effective environmental conservation and improvement in South Africa. Membership of the Dendrological Society is open to all natural persons whose application is seconded by two members and endorsed by the Executive Committee.

President
The management of the Society is vested in the Central Committee. The President of the Society is also the chairperson of the Central Committee. He is responsible for the following portfolios:
- Marketing
- Media liaison and publications
- Conservation of trees in Mpumalanga
The Society acts as a mouthpiece on behalf of members (and trees) in communications with authorities regarding the promotion of tree issues and the conservation of tree species.
Tree conservation
Responsible for the following portfolios:
- Conservation of trees in the Western Cape
The Society acts as a mouthpiece on behalf of members (and trees) in communications with authorities regarding the promotion of tree issues and the conservation of tree species.
Training
Responsible for the following portfolios:
Training:
- Short courses in tree identification
- Courses adapted to specific requirements
Conservation of trees in Gauteng:
The Society acts as a mouthpiece on behalf of members (and trees) in communications with authorities regarding the promotion of tree issues and the conservation of tree species
Invasion watch
- Reporting of invasion problems
- Advice on eradication of invasive species where required
