Indigenous tree measurement competition 08/31/2011
Simply complete a Tree Report form and follow the instructions on the form. You can download it here. There is no restriction on the number of entries per person, so measure away! But remember; only measurements of indigenous trees will be considered. Closing date: 30 September 2011. No late entries will be accepted. Three 1st prizes: Dictionary of Names of South African Trees plus a copy of the Department of Agriculture's Green Heritage; Trees, forests and woodlands of South Africa. Seven 2nd prizes: Field Guide to Trees of Southern Africa plus a copy of the Department of Agriculture's Green Heritage; Trees, forests and woodlands of South Africa. The decision of the panel to name the winners are final and there will be no correspondence in the matter. ![]() Marakele Nasionale Park se Ereveldwagters nooi entoesiastiese boomliefhebbers uit na ‘n ongelooflike naweek (17-19 September 2010) in ‘n magiese gedeelte van die Park wat nie normaalweg toeganklik is vir toeriste nie om bome te kom identifiseer onder die bekwame begeleiding van die President van die Dendrologiese Vereniging van Suid-Afrika. Avonturiers kan berg-, woud-, grasveld of vleilandhabitatte besoek op soek na spesifieke bome, of om meer te wete te kom van spesies in hierdie habitatte. ‘n Beperkte aantal entoesiaste sal tuisgaan onder ongesofistikeerde omstandighede: in ‘n ou plaashuis met twee slaapkamers vir 2-3 mense elk wat deel, of in tente. Bring u eie linne en beddegoed, drinkgoed, persoonlike benodigdhede, insekweermiddels, sonhoed en –room, knibbelkos en drank en die (toepaslike) boomboeke waaroor u beskik, sowel as ‘n vergrootglas indien u een het. Kom geniet die vrede en vreugde van ‘n wildernisgebied sonder elektrisiteit of selfoonontvangs of ander kampeerders; kyk of u ander spesies kan identifiseer waar die Outeniekwageelhout (Podocarpus falcatus) tot 30m hoog staan; ontspan langs die dam waar onder andere verskeie Ficus-soorte en bergkaree groei; geniet die asembenemende prentjie van honderde Burkea africanas (Wilde sering) voordat u verder tussen welige inheemse bome aan die voet van die Waterberg beweeg. Kom sit saans lang die vuur in die veld onder die helderste Afrikasterre tydens of na aandete en ervaar vrede.
