Biodiversity Hotspots:
Conservation International's informative review of the most threatened areas of plant and animal life on earth. No less than four Hotspots are found in southern Africa. 

Terrestrial Eco-regions of the World:
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) initiative to demarcate and describe 867 eco-regions; the latter being geographically distinct areas of land that is characterized by a distinctive climate, ecological features, and plant and animal communities. 

UNEP-WCMC Database of Rare Trees:
A searchable database containing information of threatened trees and other trees of conservation concern. Data contributes to the Global Trees Campaign. 

World Heritage Convention:
The mission of this Convention is to define and conserve the world's heritage, by drawing up a list of sites whose outstanding values should be preserved for all humanity and to ensure their protection through a closer co-operation among nations.
